Election Issues

                                                       Election Issues

The presidential race has been clarified finally by the withdrawal of Ron Paul from the Republican race. So now things get serious. Up to this candidates at least paid lip service to the old principle that you don't soil your own nest, though it seems to have been mainly lip service.

A few younger politicians actually seem to have tried to discuss issues rather than personalities and hopefully this will benefit them in the long run.  Jimmy Carter was elected president because people saw him  as honest and moral. They eventually get tired of scandal and sleaze in high offuce and
long for leaders who can make them proud of their country. Just now such leaders are in short supply around the world.

I'm not familiar enough with the current candidates' policies but I cannot help feeling that we are in for another dirty campaign. Clearly it is going to be an expensive one and that means a couple of billion dollars to attack each other splashed across TV and poured into our homes by snail mail and e-mail and every form of electronic media for the next six months.

If one candidate announced "For every dollar I spend on political ads, I donate $1.00 to feed the hungry" what would be the effect? Would his opponent match him?  And with less money to spend, would it be spent on issues such as the economy, war and peace, the environment, education and health care?

We can all dream.
